Why are non-parallel road impact attenuators useful?

Non-parallel road impact cushions are useful for safeguarding the lives of drivers if any accident that may occur while driving their vehicle. Numerous studies show with figures that this type of structure avoids 80% of fatalities due to collisions with obstacles on the road that are protected by this type of attenuator.

How do road crash cushions reduce damage if an accident?

Road crash cushions can reduce damage if an accident thanks to their structure. They can deform at the precise moment of impact, which allows them to slow down the vehicle and pick it up when it hits them. The impact absorption capacity of crash cushions reduces the number of victims, the injuries suffered by the occupants and the material damage to the vehicle.

Recently, road impact attenuators have become an indispensable element on roads, especially at road intersections, motorway exits and areas with a high risk of accidents. Throughout our history, at T2S Ibérica we have seen the evolution that attenuators have undergone: increasing their quality and effectiveness by far.

What is the structure of non-parallel road impact attenuators?

The structures of the attenuators are subjected to the most demanding test benches and strict quality controls. The models of road impact attenuators that we offer at T2S Ibérica have been tested at the Transport Research Laboratory with guarantees in accordance with the EN 1317-3 standard.

The road impact attenuators are made up of a meccano-like structure supported by a concrete base and telescopic steel panels. As soon as the vehicle hits the structure, the panels fold back on themselves thanks to rails in the sheet metal covering them. Between the panels is a box filled with foam or polyurethane to absorb the energy of the impact.

Non-parallel attenuators redirect the vehicle away from the danger when it impacts on them. Our range of attenuators includes CSSI models of 50 km/h, 80 km/h, 100 km/h and 110 km/h.
